Questions about Seeds We Grow

What is Seeds We Grow?

Seeds We Grow is a secular virtues program for families with children ages 5–7. It brings together picture books, conversation starters, playful activities, and a Keepsake Journal to help families explore feelings, choices, and how we treat others.

Volume One explores self-control, patience, perseverance, kindness, courage, and compassion.

Is it for homeschooling families?

It’s for any family who wants to explore these ideas together. You can use Seeds We Grow alongside school, as part of homeschooling, or simply as something you do during family reading time.

How does it work?

Each virtue pairs two picture books with guidance for reading each book four times. You begin by enjoying the story, then return to notice details, consider the characters’ choices, and connect the ideas with your child’s life.

The suggested rhythm is about two reading times a week, exploring one virtue over a month. You can take longer or adjust the pace to suit your family.

Why read each book more than once?

Each reading has a different focus. Once your child knows what happens, you can spend more time looking at the illustrations, wondering about a character, or exploring a question that interests them.

You can also return to the stories when they’re relevant in your child’s life.

What are The Roots and The Bridge?

These are the two foundation units that support the six virtues.

Your family begins with The Roots, which introduces naming feelings, noticing body signals, and taking a pause before choosing what to do next.

The Bridge comes after Perseverance, between the two phases of Volume One. It connects learning to manage yourself with caring for others, exploring apology and repair, including taking responsibility, listening to someone who has been hurt, and considering what might help.

Does my child need to read or write?

No. A grown-up reads the picture books aloud. Your child can respond through conversation, drawing, play, or words you write down for them.

What is the Keepsake Journal?

The journal gives your child space to record their ideas and experiences through drawings and words. There is also room for a grown-up to write about what they have noticed.

Your child can return to these pages when they need a reminder of their own experiences—for example, remembering a time they used courage and what helped them try.

Do we need to complete every activity?

No. Choose the questions and activities that interest your child and suit your family. You don’t need to work through every prompt or fill every journal page.

If a conversation develops around something your child notices, you can follow it.

Are the picture books included?

The picture books are obtained separately through your library or preferred bookseller. Seeds We Grow provides the guidance for exploring them together.

Is Seeds We Grow religious?

No. It is a secular program that explores virtues through stories, relationships, and everyday experiences.

Is this a behavior or discipline program?

Seeds We Grow is designed to help families explore virtues together. The conversations make room for feelings, different perspectives, mistakes, and trying again. Children are not graded on how well they demonstrate a virtue.

When will it be available?
